On February 24, 2022, Russian forces began a brutal invasion of Ukraine in what has become the largest military action in Europe since World War II. The atrocities committed by the Russian troops in Ukraine have not only devastated Ukraine but horrified the world. The images and stories coming out of Ukraine have emotionally overwhelmed, angered, shocked, and distressed all of us.
The purpose of this piece is to not only bring further awareness to the war but also aid the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The sculpture is interactive in nature, and I wanted all viewers regardless of age and physical state to be able to participate as this war has shaken all of us. All people, from my 3-year-old son to my 83-year-old grandmother, will be able to participate in helping the Ukrainian refugees. All the proceeds from the viewer’s participation will go to Samaritan’s Purse and be designated for the Crisis in Ukraine fund.
